Planning your content strategy

When you have realized that having the right content is important to promote your brand, your products and get new customers, it’s time to start planning and organize your work. Content creation and content management is not about creating content without a plan. You must think first, and then create your content.

The first thing you need to understand is that create new content is not free. It will either cost some of your time or, most of the time, also some or a lot of your money. That´s why it´s important to have a plan before jumping into the creation phase.

There are a few things to keep in mind when thinking about content:

This sounds like a lot but, believe me, once you understand the process, it´s not that complicated. It just takes time, good planning and hard work.

Going back to the story I shared in the first post of this series of posts on content management, talking to my friend about his story, he wanted to be able to start creating and sharing content immediately. When I asked him what his idea was about, he looked at me in surprise and claimed that he had just explained it to me. I asked him again, what do you want to offer, what is the name of your product, what are its features, and most importantly, why should I buy it?

Many times we believe in our products or our ideas and we make the mistake of believing that everyone else will immediately see this benefits and be willy to pay the price of the new product or service. When I asked these questions to my friend, it took him a moment, but he understood that I wanted to know the reason for buying his new product.

This is very important because most of the time you are not going to create the content yourself, so you need to share your vision and the right definition of your product or service with those who will work on creating and sharing your content.
